Green tea, a drink packed with health benefits
Green tea comes from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis, the very same plant as black tea or white tea. What differs is the production process: the leaves are heated right after harvesting to halt oxidation. They retain most of their antioxidants, especially catechins like EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).
Green tea is packed with numerous health benefits, discover them all!
Our selection of organic green teas
At Kusmi Tea, our organic green tea collection features over 30 varieties. Flavoured green teas, pure single-origin green teas, detox blends or wellness rituals: there is plenty to explore.
Spearmint green tea, our best-seller
Our spearmint green tea revisits the Moroccan mint tea classic, featuring nanah mint on an organic green tea base. Hot in winter, iced in summer, it is the green tea we recommend for beginners: the flavour is crisp and clean, with no bitterness. Cucumber mint green tea takes freshness a step further for warmer days.
The Rituels: green tea and active natural ingredients
The Rituel range pairs green tea with active ingredients to meet specific needs:
- Rituel Minceur: green tea, maté and guarana. The blend stimulates thermogenesis and helps regulate appetite, alongside a balanced diet.
- Rituel Défenses Immunitaires: green tea, vitamin C and echinacea. Designed for seasonal changes, when the body needs a helping hand. See also our article on green tea and the immune system.
- Rituel Mémoire: green tea, ginkgo and rhodiola. For concentration and memory, with no added stimulants.
Flavoured and detox green teas
Jasmine green tea is a great classic: jasmine flowers infused into green tea, plain and simple. Ginger lemon green tea has a spicier character, ideal for mornings. On the detox side, BB Detox blends green tea, maté and grapefruit, Detox highlights lemon notes, and Boost adds cinnamon and ginger to maté for a natural pick-me-up. Pure unflavoured green teas from China and Japan
Lovers of pure, unflavoured green teas will find the finest origins here. Japanese sencha delivers a crisp, vegetal, subtly marine cup. Matcha, ground into a fine powder, concentrates EGCG and antioxidants far beyond a standard infusion since you consume the whole leaf. Long Jing, grown in Hangzhou in China's Zhejiang province, is one of the most sought-after crus, with its notes of roasted chestnut. And Gunpowder, with its leaves rolled into pearls, serves as the traditional base for mint tea.
How to brew green tea properly
Preparation makes all the difference. A fine green tea improperly brewed becomes bitter and flat.
Water should be between 70 °C and 80 °C, no hotter. If you don't have a thermometer, let boiling water sit for 2 to 3 minutes before pouring. When it comes to brewing time, 2 to 3 minutes is plenty: sencha and matcha prefer 70 °C, while Gunpowder can handle 80 °C. Use about 2 grams of tea, or one tea bag, for 200 ml of water. One final detail that makes all the difference: use filtered or spring water, as limescale masks the aromas. We explain everything in our guide on how to brew your tea.
What is the difference between green tea, black tea and white tea?
All three come from the same tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Green tea is unoxidised: the leaves are heated quickly after picking. White tea is simply dried, with no further processing. Black tea is fully oxidised, giving it its dark colour and richer, fuller flavour. Our article on the differences between green tea and black tea covers this in detail.
