Green tea, a drink rich in health benefits

Green tea comes from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis tea plant, the same plant as black or white tea. What changes is manufacturing: the leaves are heated just after harvest to stop oxidation. They retain most of their antioxidants and in particular catechins such as EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).

The green tea is packed with many health benefits, discover them!

Our selection of organic green teas

At Kusmi Tea, the collection of organic green teas has more than 30 references. Flavored green teas, original natural green teas, detox blends or beneficial rituals: there is plenty to explore.

Mint green tea, our best-seller

Our mint green tea takes the classic Moroccan mint tea, with nanah mint on an organic green tea base. Hot in winter, iced in summer, this is the green tea that we recommend to those who are starting out: the taste is clean, without bitterness. The cucumber mint green tea takes the freshness a step further for hot days.

Rituals: green tea and natural active ingredients

The Rituel range combines green tea with active ingredients to meet specific needs:

  • Slimming Ritual : green tea, maté and guarana. The mixture stimulates thermogenesis and helps regulate appetite, in addition to a balanced diet.
  • Immune Defense Ritual : green tea, vitamin C and echinacea. Designed for the changing seasons, when the body needs a boost. See also our article on green tea and immune system.
  • Memory Ritual : green tea, ginkgo and rhodiola. For concentration and memory, without added stimulant.

Flavored and detox green teas

The jasmine green tea is a great classic: jasmine flowers infused in green tea, quite simply. The green tea lemon ginger has a spicier character, ideal in the morning. On the detox side, the BB Detox green tea blend, maté and grapefruit, Detox plays the lemon card, and the Boost add cinnamon and ginger to maté for a natural boost. To find out more, see our article on detox green tea.

Natural green teas from China and Japan

Lovers of natural green teas will find great origins here. The sencha Japanese gives a lively, vegetal, slightly iodized cup. The matcha, crushed into a fine powder, concentrates the EGCG and antioxidants well beyond a classic infusion since the whole leaf is consumed. The Long Jing, grown in Hangzhou in the Zhejiang province in China, is one of the most sought-after wines, with its notes of roasted chestnut. And the Gunpowder, with leaves rolled into balls, serves as a traditional base for mint tea.

How to prepare green tea correctly

Preparation really makes the difference. A good, poorly brewed green tea becomes bitter and flat.

The water should be between 70°C and 80°C, no more. If you don't have a thermometer, let the boiling water sit for 2 to 3 minutes before pouring. In terms of infusion time, 2 to 3 minutes are enough: sencha and matcha prefer 70°C, a Gunpowder supports 80°C. Allow around 2 grams of tea, or one bag, for 20 cl of water. Last detail that changes everything: use filtered or spring water, the limestone masks the aromas. We detail everything in our guide how to prepare your tea.

What is the difference between green tea, black tea and white tea?

All three come from the same tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Green tea is not oxidized: the leaves are heated quickly after picking. White tea is simply dried, without further processing. Black tea is completely oxidized, which gives its dark color and stronger taste. Our article on differences between green tea and black tea details the subject.
