Legend has it that smoked tea originated in China's Fujian province, just as a harvest was coming to an end. The drying phase had begun, but the facilities were requisitioned by the army. To avoid losing precious tea leaves, the planter decided to accelerate the process by drying them over a wood fire rather than in the open air. This gave his tea a smoky taste, which earned him many compliments. Smoked tea was born.
