Le thé noir, un antioxydant efficace ?

In summary: Black tea is full of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins which neutralize free radicals, support cardiovascular health, preserve youthful skin and promote good oral hygiene. Organic and in bulk, it offers an effective antioxidant, an ideal complement to a balanced diet.

Why is black tea antioxidant?

Antioxidants are present in many edible plants, fruits and vegetables... and the tea plant is no exception! These molecules, called polyphenols, are produced by the tea plant to defend itself against various external attacks: fungi, insects, diseases... On humans, this “shield” role is just as beneficial, since it makes it possible to fight against another form of aggression: that of free radicals. These are unstable compounds that form as a result of UV radiation, radiation, tobacco consumption, exposure to air pollution, inflammation, etc. and which accumulate in the body, causing damage to cells. This is called oxidative stress. Pictorially, we can think of rust on metal.

What are antioxidants used for? What effect do they have on our health?

Antioxidants act on several levels of the body. On the skin, preserving its youth, fighting against skin sagging and the formation of wrinkles. On the heart, preserving the arteries and lowering bad cholesterol levels. On the eyes, they would prevent cell degeneration. And finally, on the entire organism. By preserving the youth of cells, they play a key role in the prevention of cancer, inflammatory or cardiovascular diseases, etc.

What is the anti-oxidant power of black tea?

The high content of black tea in flavonoids, an antioxidant which attacks bad cholesterol, would especially prevent cardiovascular diseases. While they are responsible for the astringency of black tea, tannins are also powerful antioxidants that eliminate bacteria, particularly oral and dental bacteria. Drinking black tea helps keep your breath good and your teeth healthy. Finally, the antioxidants present in black tea act against free radicals, which threaten our cells and are suspected of causing many diseases (arthritis, cancer, etc.). Stocking up on antioxidants, by eating fruits, vegetables, and drinking tea, allows you to have a balanced diet, to try to limit the risks.

What is the difference with the antioxidants contained in green tea?

If all teas have interesting antioxidants, green tea is the one that contains the most. This is explained by the difference in the tea-making process. Thus, unlike black tea, which will undergo complete natural oxidation (blackening of the tissues), green tea sees its oxidation stopped after picking. The tea leaves are “seized” by heat, in order to keep their properties intact. Results: antioxidants are even more present. Thus, green tea is known to help strengthen the immune system, fight against aging, while encouraging weight loss. In the green tea family, matcha tea is said to be richest in antioxidants. This explains why it is increasingly found in natural skin and hair care products. We encourage you to try this at home!

Choose your black tea wisely to make the most of its benefits

At Kusmi, we recommend that you opt for organic black tea in bulk if possible. This way, you are assured of consuming pesticide-free, quality and environmentally friendly tea.
