The info you need

Ceylon was the name for modern-day Sri Lanka until 1972. Sri Lanka is an island country located some 20 miles south of India in the Indian Ocean. Its economic capital, Colombo, is found on the coast, while its cultural capital, Kandy, is nestled in an enchanting mountainous region. This is where the renowned Ceylon tea is grown.

“OP” or “Orange Pekoe,” meaning “royal leaf,” is a grade of tea. The origins of this grade are thought to date back to the royal house of Orange-Nassau in the Netherlands, which used to approve certain teas it considered exceptional. But what is a grade for? In fact, a grade is used to provide two major pieces of information about a tea: the size of its leaves and which delicate leaves or buds are harvested. As it happens, the OP grade refers to whole, rolled leaves, and only the leaf bud and the two youngest leaves are picked.
