Mugs and tumblers

How to choose your mug?
Choosing a mug depends on a number of factors, including its size, shape, material (ceramic, porcelain, glass, metal) and design. You may prefer a larger mug for larger drinks, or a smaller one for tea or espresso. The material is also important: porcelain and ceramic mugs are the most common and are excellent for keeping drinks hot, while metal is more durable but not always microwave-safe. You may also want to choose a design that matches your style or décor.

Why a mug?
A mug is often preferred for drinking tea or coffee in smaller quantities. The smaller size keeps the beverage at the right temperature while you drink it. What's more, a mug generally has a more elegant shape and can be used in more formal contexts.

Who invented the mug?
The concept of a drinking vessel goes back thousands of years, long before the word "mug" was ever used. The word "mug" itself appeared in 16th-century England, but it's not known who invented the modern mug as we know it today.

What's the difference between a cup and a mug?
A cup is generally smaller and has a more elegant shape with a handle on the side. It is often used for drinking tea or coffee in small quantities. A mug is larger, has a sturdier shape and is designed to hold more liquid, making it ideal for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soup and other hot or cold drinks.
