To be considered of organic origin, consumer products from organic farming must meet the requirements of European regulations. The specifications include:
● the obligation not to use any GMOs, pesticides, fertilizers or synthetic weedkillers on a crop or soil;
● the obligation to respect animal welfare by farmers;
● the presence of at least 95% of ingredients from organic farming for processed products.
Unprocessed or processed agricultural products intended for human consumption, food reserved for animals, as well as seeds can be certified organic.
How is the organic agriculture sector monitored?
To obtain “organic product” certification, players in the sector undergo regular monitoring of their practices by independent certifying bodies such as the Ecocert agency. These organizations are responsible for verifying the traceability of consumer products to guarantee their quality, from production to distribution. They ensure the application of practices and standards in force and certify the conformity of consumer products with European regulations according to precise specifications.
On store shelves, consumer products bearing the logo of the European Eurofeuille label comply with the standards and specifications of organic farming. The presence of this control logo is mandatory and must be accompanied by the number of the certifying body. Organic farming products can also bear the AB logo, a French standard certifying that 95% of the product's ingredients come from an organic production method.
What about imported organic agricultural products?
Tea is an exotic consumer product whose cultivation is widespread in countries such as China, India and Sri Lanka. Thus, the tea that we consume is necessarily an imported product. To be sold as a product from organic and non-conventional agriculture in France, European organic regulations must be respected. Imported tea must comply with the same standards and regulations as consumer products grown in the EU.
The products arrive with the guarantee of the application of the rules and practices of organic farming production methods and their importation is strictly regulated. Imported tea therefore complies with the control and requirements of European regulations which set a threshold limit for chemicals and pesticides not to be exceeded in its specifications.
What does organic tea guarantee?
Opting for organically grown tea drastically limits the risks of the presence of toxic products and pesticides. You can thus enjoy a drink without impacting your health, that of the producers and that of the environment. Organic tea guarantees that:
● farmers have banned the use of GMO products, pesticides, fertilizers and synthetic weedkillers from their production process;
● the product contains 95% ingredients from organic farming if the mixture has been enhanced with plants, spices, fruits, or even flowers.
