What is the difference between a tangerine, an orange and a clementine?

Although these three fruits belong to the same family, the citrus family, they come from different trees: the tangerine is the fruit of the tangerine tree, the orange of the orange tree and the clementine of the clementine tree. Where it gets a little more complicated is that the clementine tree is a hybrid tree, resulting from a cross between an orange tree and a tangerine tree. It is therefore logical that in terms of taste, the clementine borrows from both the orange (sweet and sour) and the tangerine (more fragrant, less acidic).

Why is tangerine tea a good idea?

While it is popular for its flavours, the tangerine has many seeds (like the lemon). This makes it not always easy or pleasant to drink. Extracting its juice or using its zest (its outer layer) appears to be a good way of getting around this small inconvenience... Moreover, the softness, sweetness and fruitiness of the mandarin combine particularly well with the intense and full-bodied aromas of black tea, which they help to soften.

What are the benefits of tangerines?

Like many fruits, the tangerine has a lot of good points. Rich in water and fibre, it is also low in calories. Its high content of vitamin C and antioxidants make it an ally in strengthening the immune system. Regular consumption could prevent minor winter illnesses such as colds and flu, as well as improve digestion after a rich or fatty meal. Finally, the tangerine is said to have a calming effect, so its essential oil is recommended for people suffering from stress or sleep disorders

How can you make homemade tangerine tea?

To begin with, it is recommended you use organically grown tangerines, so that their skins do not contain any pesticides. Depending on your taste, you can choose a green tea with tangerine or a black tea with tangerine. To make it, you need to brew tangerine zest at the same time as your natural tea (green or black). Looking for an even fruitier or more fragrant drink? Add tangerine juice. Those who like a pretty presentation should add a slice of tangerine, while those with a sweet tooth should add a spoonful of sugar or honey. In summer, you can try an iced version of tangerine tea. Prepare a carafe and chill it, adding ice cubes just before tasting.

Which Kusmi teas contain tangerine?

Outside the tangerine season (October to February), we recommend tasting tangerine-flavoured teas. At Kusmi, two blends contain it : Troïka, an intense and refreshing black tea, flavoured with bergamot, orange and tangerine and Bouquet de Fleurs, the first Kusmi tea (created 150 years ago!), an organic black tea with floral and fruity flavours of bergamot, lemon, orange, tangerine and ylang-ylang. Like all Kusmi teas and herbal teas, these two recipes include aromatic plants from organic farming (certified organic designation), which are blended, flavoured and packaged in France in an ecologically responsible manner.
