WHO ARE WE?
Kusmi Tea is home to an ongoing revolution. Every fruit is welcome, and everyone as well.
With our freethinking identity and style, we are paving our own, exceptional way by shrugging off convention and etiquette. Our mission is to introduce as many people as possible to the best tea has to offer.
Accessible, delicious, optimistic teas with no fuss or pretention. As Kusmi Tea is made to be shared, it unites novices and connoisseurs around the universal emotion of pleasure.
This is more than tea; our creations are revolutionizing the art of blends.
Our expertise born of trusting in liberated inspiration.
Blending, assembling, breaking down barriers and preconceptions.
Selecting the best from every culinary register, because improbable combinations sometimes lead to the finest creations. A more inclusive, eclectic, vibrant tea, steeped in modernity. Tea to be enjoyed wherever, whenever, however.
And as the richness of our blends is drawn from the diversity of the natural world, we have a duty to preserve this inexhaustible source of inspiration. This is why we are now pledging to exclusively use natural flavors and organic teas in our recipes.
Our Russian teas have chosen to become French, and for good reason. France is a country founded on openness and diversity that lend our blends an irresistible touch of frivolity.
Drinking Kusmi Tea means embracing this ideal of freedom. It means keeping an open mind and going with the movement. Saying yes to extravagance, originality, and the unexpected.
OUR TEAM
Our group is made up of over 600 employees, distributed among our 100 boutiques across the world, our production workshops in Normandy, and our headquarters in Paris. Creation, innovation and know-how are part of our daily lives. Our common ambition is to offer the best blends of teas and infusions, based on natural ingredients.
OUR COMMITMENTS
Our teas are intended to offer a moment of cordiality, sharing and benevolence. It is in this context that each year we support various human and environmental actions for solidarity.
OUR HISTORY
Our story begins in 1867 when Pavel Kousmichoff founded the tea house in St.Petersburg. Success was immediate and Kusmi tea quickly became the favorite of the tsars. In 1917, fleeing the Russian revolution, the Kousmichoff family set up their workshops on avenue Niel, in Paris. The company was bought taken over in 2003 by Sylvain and Claude Orebi. In Kusmi Tea the two brothers recognized a gem and they decide to take over the reins.
Pavel Mikhaïlovitch Kousmichoff, the eldest son of a rural family, left the village of his birth at the age of 14 to work for a tea trader in St Petersburg. Spotting his potential, the tea trader taught him the secrets of blending tea, offering him a small store in 1867 as a wedding gift.
The business house did incredibly well, and Kusmi teas went on to become the favourite tea of the tsars. Following his marriage to Alexandra, 6 children were born. Of those, the eldest son Viatcheslav (1878) succeeded him, and his daughter Elisabeth (1880) was the inspiration for the recipe for the tsar's favourite tea, Bouquet of Flowers.
In 1907, Pavel sent Viatcheslav to learn more about tea in London. Viatcheslav became a tea specialist in London, and was a talented businessman. He opened his first English branch P.M.Kousmichoff & Sons at 11 Queen Victoria Street.
The Russian Revolution broke out and the Kousmichoff family was forced to flee Russia, setting up its studios in Paris at 75 Avenue Niel (the premises are now occupied by the company's training space Les Ateliers K), creating the Kusmi Tea house.
The business flourished during the inter-war years, and offices were opened in New York, Hamburg and also Constantinople. But Berlin was where Viatcheslav set himself up as a priority, as a lot of Russians lived there.
Viatcheslav Kousmichoff passed away in1946 shortly after the end of the war, leaving the family business to his son Constantin. But he was more artist and tea-lover than businessman, and the company slowly declined.
